About a week ago, I wrapped up development of version 1.0 of my free web application, Street Fighter x Tekken Mobile Moves. Since launching it, I’ve made a number of improvements to speed and usability, but before I get into all that, you’re probably wondering just what the heck it is, right?

Just what the heck is it?

A web app is just like the apps you’re used to downloading in the iTunes Store or Android Marketplace (and whatever the heck Windows Phone store is called), except it runs in your mobile web browser. Optionally, you can install a web app by tapping “Add to Home Screen” (or similar functionality on Android). If you choose to install it, Mobile Moves will run mostly like any other app you’re used to.

The one caveat to all of this is that the data is loaded from the Internet, so you do need to be connected to use the app (but the same thing could be said for Facebook, Twitter, Google Maps).

The Bread & Butter: Character Move Lists

I designed the Street Fighter x Tekken version* of Mobile Moves while keeping in mind that you play 2 characters at once. It was imperative that the app let you quickly switch between which characters moves were in view. In later versions, I plan to update the interface to just show the 2 characters at once on a larger tablet device.

Select your main character from the drop down on the left. Select your partner from the drop down in the middle. And swap between the two using the button on the right. Change characters at any time and the interface updates with the new information. It couldn’t be simpler.

*Yes, there was an unreleased, maybe will be released someday, version of SSFIV: AE 2012 Mobile Moves.

Bonus: A Gem Guide

Street Fighter x Tekken launched and everyone had a reaction to the gems. Love them or hate them, they’re here to stay. Capcom was quick to put out an update to allow you to directly input the ID of the gems you wanted to use. The only problem: how the heck do you know the ID of the gem you want? On top of that, the screen to input IDs doesn’t tell you the properties of the gem.

Enter Street Fighter x Tekken Mobile Moves Gem screen. Every gem currently available is displayed in this list. You can easily filter the list by entering in any key word you can think of. Want to see just assist gems? Type in assist. Want to find gems to up your damage? Type in damage.

Future Plans

Because Street Fighter x Tekken Mobile Moves is a web app, I can update it at any time. The next time you launch it, you may find that there are new gems added, or in the fall 12 new characters to select from. But my plans don’t stop at just keeping the data updated. Here’s a few things I’m planning for version 1.5:

  • Frame Data – Tap a button, the screen flips around and now you have all the frame data for the current character in view
  • Mark things as favorites – Mark a character or gem as your favorite and view only your favorites to make it easier to navigate the information you care about most.
  • PlayStation exclusive(?) characters – Cole is, but I believe Pac-Man & Mega Man are coming to Xbox 360. Probably the cats as well. Those characters are coming, along with the ability to hide them (if you’re a 360 user or don’t care for them).

Feedback

This project started off as something I built for myself to address the shortcomings of living in an age where games have incomplete manuals and patches come out every week. But now I’ve released it to the world, and it is yours as well. Please check out Street Fighter x Tekken Mobile Moves, use it the next time you’re training or playing with some new-comers and let me know what you think.

  • How does it run for you?
  • Anything bother you?
  • Some feature you’d like to see I haven’t accounted for?

You can either leave some feedback in the comments below, Tweets to @mobilemovesapp (also follow for updates when I add new features or data) or email mobilemovesapp@donovanmyers.com.

Are you going to update the app when the revision comes out? Also, are you going to update the ssf4 move list to be comparable to ssf4ae 2012??

      Steven,

You seem to be the only person that has cared about the app. 😉 Did you use it? Did you find it useful?

I will probably be caught up in the minor excitement of the 2013 patch, and will go about updating things, yes.

As for the move list, I’m guessing you’re talking about the translation I did? That already is AE, I don’t believe there are any changed/new/removed moves in 2012 from AE are there?

Any plans on making an Android or iOS app?

Since the game came out and flopped and subsequently died: no. 😉
