Your cab is great but i’m thinking about adding a new feature. I’m fond of shmup and the big idea is to be able to tate the TV. I’m not asking you to create plans for me, but do you think, i can adapt your concept to this idea ? Maybe using a “tate” Wall Mount.

I’m sure the are lots of complications to do that but maybe it was on your mind sometimes

It really is up to your budget and taste for whatever TV you end up choosing. Although, if I had to recommend 1 thing, make sure you spend the extra to get a 120hz TV instead of the (usually) standard 60hz. That seems to be most important for gaming.

I’ve a question about the TV. I follow you by using a 32″ but do you think a 720p is enough at this distance ? is a 1080p more accurate ?

I wouldn’t change the size. I think it’s perfect, any bigger and you’d probably start moving your head back and forth like you’re watching a tennis match. You only sit about 1-2′ away from the TV, so 32″ is definitely big enough. Lastly, the real Vewlixes use a 32″ LCD so, I wouldn’t go any bigger for authenticity’s sake.

I know what you mean about the ‘arcade hub’ — this was my first attempt (Flickr Gallery).

I hate to ask so many questions but now that you been using it for a while do you think the Display could be any bigger or is it just the right size or any other hind site modifications. Personally I don’t have the skill to do such an awesome fan replica but will attempt to pull from your design to make an arcade hub as a summer project.

However, you could do 1 of 2 things, I suppose:

1. Add some more inches to the bottom of the cabinet. I would elongate the dimensions for the base back, sides, and front. Then move the 1-1/2″ high white part of the sides that goes along the bottom down (leaving it the same height) and adding some inches above that.

2. Buy some leveling feet and use those to give the cabinet height. Usually they are 2 pieces. A metal sleeve that’s threaded inside that you pre-drill for and hammer into the base, and a foot with a threaded post coming out of it that you would then screw into the sleeve. That could give you an inch or so.

It’s a black piece of track that they sell in the windows & doors section at Home Depot. It’s about 1″ wide and has 2 tracks running on it. There are pre-cut, oval shaped holes running down the middle of it. I don’t remember exactly what it was called or how much it cost (a couple of dollars). It’s sold in a long strip, about 5′ or so.

You can see in my Flickr photo gallery that I just used a strip on the top and bottom, not the sides or the curves (it doesn’t bend well).

Next time I go to Home Depot, I’m going to get the exact name and price and update my materials list.

How did you hold the marquee in place? I noticed on your flickr photos a couple of black plastic slots.

I did notice…at least to me…the cab seems a little……short. I realize its a sit-down cab. Since I’m 5′ 11″, the edges of the control panel will be tapping my knee caps. lol.

so I might have to add a little height to this bad boy so I don’t get a hump from hunching over to play.

any suggestions?
