How To: Use Google SketchUp

Here are 2 videos I recorded at midnight. The time recorded is important, as I feel it justifies their quality.

I used the free software, Jing, to record this screencast. Unfortunately that didn’t leave me any options for letting me embed them into this post. You’ll have to click the links below to view the videos on the Jing website.

  1. General Overview
  2. Replacing the TV

The 2nd video got cut off right at the end, since you can only record 5 minutes at a time with Jing. Basically, the last click of the pencil tool would have finished the square shape for the side covers. You would then use the Push/Pull tool to extrude it 1/8″ (the thickness of the hardboard) and you’d be done. Also, you’ll probably notice that I didn’t actually snap the back part of the frame to the TV. I just went with it since I only had 5 minutes and recording these was less fun than I imagined.

If you have any questions, please post in the comments below and I will try to answer them (or shoot another crappy video!)

If anyone has any suggestions on FREE or cheap Mac screencasting software, please post those below as well. Thanks!

I’m interested in building something like yours, but a little different. So I’m trying to get as much info from your site as possible.

Hope this works out for you.

    Thanks

Thanks for posting those videos. I’m right now working on building your original cabinet. It has been over 10 years since I’ve worked with wood so I’m starting on the simpler project. Once I crave something better looking I’m gonna attempt your newest design.

    Thanks for all the info.
